  • Provide support on Transportation System Management and Operations (TSM&O) initiatives, designs, and deployments, evaluating innovative infrastructure technology solutions to improve the safety and mobility of Florida roads. 

  • Assist in developing technical documents for complex, technology-based systems – including Systems Engineering documentation (ConOps, PSEMP, RTVM), technical specifications, and more. 

  • Organize and conduct engineering investigations and planning work on multiple project tasks which have a well-defined scope.  

  • Outline and prepare technical reports and contribute content for sections of more complex reports, working under the periodic review of a mentor or more experienced professional.  

  • Review project submittals, including conceptual, preliminary, and final ITS plans. Confirm compliance with state and federal design criteria and standards. Record review comments and confirm compliance to comments with responses and subsequent submittals. 

  • Research feasibility of alternative design approaches, site conditions, and regulatory agency specifications. 

  • Assist in performing post-design oversight such as shop drawing reviews and construction requests for information. 

  • Contribute to the development of project specifications and requirements. 

  • Assist with preparation of preliminary man-hour, cost, and material quantity estimates for pilot projects, including projects that leverage emerging technologies.  

  • Participate in quality control checks, maintain quality standards in all work produced, check computations, and/or review designs and drawings produced by others.  

  • Contribute expertise in advanced concepts and techniques to solve unconventional problems. 

  • Coordinate with other colleagues and team members across multiple engineering disciplines as required. 

  • Perform field observations of construction and system integration activities and assist where appropriate.

  • Proven track record in effective practice / program building, leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and growing a client base

  • Strong understanding of the Florida transportation market including FDOT, local agencies and MPOs and the success factors for a DBE / SBE firm focused on ITS

  • Experience managing FDOT task orders and projects

  • Client contacts and relationships with local and regional agencies and FDOT

  • Superior interpersonal and negotiating skills with a client-service focus

  • Excellent time management and communication skills

  • Familiarity with FDOT standards, MUTCD and AASHTO guidelines

  • Assist clients with understanding funding related to the Infrastructure Investment Jobs Act / Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other similar Federal, state and local programs

  • Willingness to travel

  • Ability to develop protocols, processes and systems and contribute to improving the efficiency of the business and team

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as principal-in-charge or project manager for multimillion dollar projects / pursuits for various transportation agencies

  • Manage project managers, engineers, staff, clients and stakeholders to ensure appropriate progress and results both commercial and technical

  • Provide direct technical support to public agency personnel with a broad range of technical backgrounds

  • Brief government officials

  • Develop a Florida marketing / business plan with the Principals including financial budget and quarterly updates

  • Obtain market intelligence through client relationships and interfacing with other firms as a strategic partner and technical advisor to identify, pursue and capture new work

  • Provide market trends and analysis to the Principals

  • Develop proposals, scopes of work and budgets for projected work

  • Chart and coordinate Florida market performance results

  • Provide thought leadership and champion innovations

  • Communicate with external audiences via articles, white papers and / or conference presentations to continue to position Drive Engineering as a leader in ITS

  • Recruit and retain an exceptional, high-performance team

  • Supervise and review performance of staff in Florida

  • Train, mentor and develop staff into ITS leaders

  • Seek out and form new partnerships and strengthen relationships with FDOT and local agencies in Districts throughout Florida

  • Build and reinforce your professional network through active engagement in appropriate technical societies, industry events, public speaking opportunities, community organizations, etc.

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, state and local safety rules and regulations

  • Deliver all projects on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
