Description: Over the last decade, the advent of TSMO—the Transportation Systems Management and Operations field—has become widely recognized for its integral and essential role within the transportation ecosystem. Unlike some of the more established transportation disciplines, TSMO did not have an institutional support structure or a centralized home for collecting and disseminating best practice information, convening subject matter experts and identifying research needs and capabilities. The National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) was developed to meet this need. NOCoE’s core has been to emphasize how TSMO gets done in state, regional, and local DOTs. The presentation will share the products and services the Center provides to support the TSMO stakeholders. 

Presenter: Faisal Saleem serves as the Director, National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE). Through education, networking, communication, and knowledge transfer NOCoE provides centralized resources and services to support the transportation system management and operations (TSMO) stakeholders in workforce readiness, deployment of technology and practices, and mainstreaming of TSMO. 

Previously he served the Maricopa County Department ofTransportation as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Branch Manager and provided strategic direction, overall supervision, program management and staff development to advance the TSMO functions. 

Faisal has a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.

2022 Southeastern ITS Summit

2022 Southeastern ITS Summit

Fall 2022 will bring together ITS Georgia (ITSGA), ITS Carolinas (ITSC), ITS Florida (ITSFL), ITS Tennessee (ITSTN), and Gulf Region ITS (GRITS) for a joint annual meeting. The conference will be held November 6-9, 2022, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Atlanta, GA.

The four-day event will be filled with many opportunities for participants to learn and share their knowledge about all things ITS, as well as network with fellow conference attendees. A series of sessions will be offered featuring informative presentations and challenging discussions. Industry experts will share best practices, lessons learned, and new strategies to ensure further success of ITS and TSM&O for the Southeast.

In addition, training and professional tours will be available to provide participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively plan and deploy ITS technologies in their own jurisdictions.

Of course, the conference would not be complete without some networking activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience Atlanta with a variety of events showcasing the city.

It’s happening! Transpo2020, now Transpo2022, is going to take place from July 17 to July 20 in Bonita Springs. Sponsored by ITS Florida and the Florida Puerto Rico District of ITE, this will be the largest gathering of transportation engineers in Florida this year.

Held at the beautiful Bonita Springs Hyatt Regency, Transpo2022 will provide you the opportunity to meet with colleagues and friends you haven’t seen in years. The conference will run from Sunday afternoon to Wednesday noon. Sunday will begin with training and end with a reception on the lawn. Monday and Tuesday will provide plenary and technical sessions that will provide discussions of the latest technologies and processes. Key speakers throughout the conference will include leaders of ITS America and ITE, our new Secretary of Transportation, and District One Secretary LK Nandam. Melissa Wandall will speak at the opening session. She will share her personal experience and motivate you to be more aware of safety. You won’t want to miss her presentation. Also, a large Exhibit Hall will allow you to discuss the newest products with vendors. Monday night we will go to TopGolf for an evening of fun and Tuesday night will be ITSFL’s and FLPRITE’s Annual Banquet. Transpo2022 will include additional training and a fun golf tournament on Wednesday morning.

To sum it up, Transpo2022 will allow you to:

The presentation focus is on Florida’s Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) Program with an emphasis on safety and mobility. Raj Ponnaluri will discusses the CAV Business Plan and its seven key focus areas, and will include the ongoing projects and initiatives. Ongoing activities such as the V2X Data Platform, SCMS, TAPS-LA and I-STREET will be discussed.

About the presenter: Dr. Raj Ponnaluri is the State Connected Vehicle and Arterial Management Engineer at the Florida Department of Transportation. In addition to leading the state’s arterial management, wrong-way driving and connected vehicle programs, he assists with the development of the TSM&O initiatives. He holds a bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Master of Science, Master of Business administration, and PHD in transportation engineering and an MBA. He is a registered P.E., PTOE and PMP. He has 22 years of experience in Traffic Engineering and Operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O), public transportation, and projects and contract management.
