IITS Lab Recognition

ITS Florida was pleased to attend the opening ceremony of the Florida International University (FIU) Integrated Intelligent Transportation System Laboratory (IITS) at the Lehman Center for Transportation Research, on Monday May 11, 2009.  Jesus Martinez and Tahira Faquir, ITS Florida Officers presented an award to Dr. Mohammed Hadi to recognize this achievement.

The FIU-IITS is one of the most sophisticated ITS laboratories in the nation, with a video wall, central software, ITS devices, servers and operator workstations. The lab is similar to the FDOT traffic management centers but at a smaller scale. The lab has been established as a result of a team effort between the FDOT and FIU, and will be functioning as a major ITS and transportation engineering research and education tool.  It will allow researchers to observe and analyze live conditions of the Florida transportation systems and to conduct research to improve mobility and safety.  It will also allow students to have hands-on experience with transportation system operations and management.
