In 2001, the Florida Department of Transportation and ITS Florida agreed on the need to create an advisory council to operate as an industry forum; to support FDOT technical staff; to provide advice in ITS policy development; to assist in the development, review, and dissemination of standards, guidelines, and performance measures; and to provide technical assistance and information resources.
They established the ITS Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is made up of the entire ITS Florida Board. The Council meets several times a year. In 2003 and 2004, the focus of the Council was on the development of ITS performance measures that could be used by the Florida Transportation Commission and the FDOT to evaluate ITS investments in the state. In 2005, the ITS Advisory Council considered TMC colocation issues. The Advisory Council continues to be available for FDOT.
